A Brief History of Jazz

Description
Born in America, jazz has been called our own “classical music,” and it reflects the country’s cultural diversity, creative individualism, and many of the tensions therein. Its rich history is filled with colorful names: Bird, Dizzy, Fathead, Satchmo, Willie the Lion, and titles of nobility too, like Duke and Count. Mr. Moody, author of The Jazz Exiles and himself a touring and recording jazz musician, will trace that history for us. Here’s a journey worth making, from the Original Dixieland Jazz band’s first recording right up to current luminaries like Marsalis, Jarret and Corea. Join OLLI and Mr. Moody for an all-encompassing survey of an all-American genre.
