Course Description

With younger CSU East Bay and older OLLI students, this course will examine how we see and understand life differently. Using selected case studies and interactive exercises, stories and activities from the book “Perception And Deception, A Mind-Opening Journey Across Cultures”, we will analyze a broad array of cross-cultural situations from within and beyond the United States. There will be examination and discussion of what’s behind intergenerational and culture clashes in the worlds of business and communication, health care, child-rearing, death and dying, .  We’ll also explore how language reveals and conceals cultural realities beyond our experience. In the process, we’ll find positive pathways for engaging with differences.
