Course Description
Mr. Bailey offers us an exploration of American classical music, music written in the United States in the European classical tradition. He’s got a fascinating and complex story to tell, starting with colonial religious influences on musical composition such as the Bay Psalm Book, and moving in time through the contributions to the classical genre from American folk music, jazz, the blues, and even traces of pop. Join us for a close look at a distinguished list of American composers of symphonies and operas who have tapped into the rich stew of our country’s musical past and blended it with European classicalism. Here’s an OLLI treat for mind and ear.
