Course Description
Dr. Goldberg offers us a look at portraiture and self-portraiture that’s both fun and informative. He will start with the earliest tomb portraits of Ancient Egypt and end at cutting edge modern and abstract versions of such images. Along the way we’ll find out the role portraits and self-portraiture played in successive cultures and how these roles changed over time. And closer to our own time, photography gets added to the story. Dr. Goldberg will direct attention to great masters like Rembrandt, Durer, and Singer Sargent, but you will also meet painters, photographers, and sculptors less familiar. What do portraits tell us and what types of them are we drawn to? OLLI and Dr. Goldberg have answers.
