Is there a uniquely American disposition or character? The very question rouses our natural resistance to stereotyping or to those who might seek to enforce some patriarchal standard of conformity. After all, current religious, political, and cultural conflicts compel us to recognize deep divisions in our society. Professor Garrett creates for us an “invective-free zone” in which to conduct a search for answers to these challenging questions. Come pitch in!
