Course Description

Louis Armstrong rose to international fame in the 1920’s and became one of America’s most beloved entertainers. Mr. Joyce will describe how the man they called “Pops” conquered New Orleans, Chicago and New York with his trumpet, voice and genuine love of music. Along the way, we will investigate his musical friendships with Bix Beiderbecke, Duke Ellington and many others. The course will feature video clips, audio samples, and stories about Armstrong’s personal life from those who knew him well. He was one of the greatest musical figures of the 20th Century .
