Course Description

Come explore Concord’s Markham Nature Park and Arboretum with a morning walk along with fellow OLLI members. We will begin our visit along the Markham Tree Walk, then proceed through the International Gardens, where we will view trees and shrubs transported from Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, as well as various South American and European countries.  These exotic plants have been collected from regions that share the Mediterranean ecosystem of coastal California and have adapted well to the Concord and Bay area climatic conditions.
Be prepared to walk over rolling gravel paths:  wear walking shoes, poles, sunhat, sunscreen, and bring water.
We will meet in the Markham Nature Park parking lot by 9:15 for a 9:30 start and will conclude the walk by 11:30 a.m. The field study will be led by Dr. Herb Eder, Emeritus Professor of Geography & Environmental Studies, Cal State, East Bay.
