Course Description

A medical doctor; an early vaccine advocate and author of numerous scientific essays; a prolific novelist and storyteller; a fierce proponent of the paranormal; and the creator of probably the most famous sleuth of all time—such was the incomparable Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. We will review several of Doyle’s famous Sherlock Holmes stories in the course and also examine some of his other writings. A look at The Hound of the Baskervilles will end the course. Both rationalist and spiritualist, Doyle has been justifiably termed “a bundle of contradictions.” Let’s become sleuths ourselves and search for the man. Join us, and enjoy a romp through Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s “storied” days in Victorian Britain. (ONLINE)
