Course Description

The San Francisco Bay Area exploded with psychedelic rock that captured the imagination of the world in the 1960’s. Tune in with OLLI and Mr. Unterberger to explore the “San Francisco Sound”.  You will be treated to both common and rare audio recordings by greats like Jefferson Airplane, the Grateful Dead, Janis Joplin, Sly & the Family Stone, Santana, and others. San Francisco rock combined folk, jazz, blues, avant-garde, ethnic, and rock styles to create an entirely new style of rock. Exploration includes the contributions of non-musicians from the region’s music promoters, music venues, press, and studios that made the music possible. San Francisco rock influenced popular culture that still resonates today.
