Course Description

We know a bit about Eliza, Angelica, and Peggy, the Schuyler sisters, from the musical Hamilton, but what happened to them? Their parents were both members of prominent Dutch American families. Their father was a General in the American Revolution and later a Senator. Their mother, a Van Rensselaer, managed a large household and had fifteen children. The eldest sister married an Englishman. The second born lived long after her husband’s death and founded an orphanage. The third married the tenth richest man in American history. Ms.McGough offers us a closer look at the Schuyler Family and their roots in the little known colony of the New Netherlands. Here’s an opportunity to round out your understanding of life and family culture in the colonial and early national years of our country. The Schulyer’s are fascinating company. Come along with OLLI and get to know them. (ONLINE)
