Join OLLI and Ms. Cocciardi for a Vespa tour through Rome’s city center for an investigation of the 13 monolithic granite obelisks called Cleopatra’s Needles. These 326-ton monoliths are tributes to the Roman engineers who somehow managed to transport them from Egypt to the capital city. Then there is the story of how a, by then, Christian community was able to accept these pagan symbols as part of its own history. There’s much to delight in seeing and hearing about these incredible feats of art and engineering, feats that reveal much about ancient Egypt and the Roman Empire. Come and savor it. (ONLINE)
