Course Description

Celebrate World Oceans Day

Take a deep dive with Steve Peletz on a photographic journey into oceanic exploration and ocean conservation.  He is one of a growing number of citizen scientists committed to research into the world’s ecosystems and their preservation.  He’ll take you, via his camera, deep into the Pacific off Mexico, Costa Rica, and Ecuador to experience tagging tiger sharks with acoustic tracking devices, an effort to understand the role sharks play as top predators in Pacific marine communities.  He’ll also lead you into other depths: the politics involved when efforts are made to expand protected areas for marine life and prevent overfishing.  Going to sea (or getting into one) is always an adventure.  We think you’ll find this trip particularly informative and inspiring.
