The Fine Art Museum of San Francisco recently offered an exhibit designed to show how Gauguin’s inner quests—his spiritual journey—affected his development as an artist. Professor Holm brings us visual highlights from this exhibit and close commentary on them. The influence of Gauguin’s relations with his wife, other artists, and the people he encountered in his world-wide wanderings on his body of work will be highlighted. The show presented a chronological survey of Gauguin’s career, from his earliest paintings in the 1870s to the iconic works inspired by his time in the Pacific. Allow OLLI and Professor Holm to help you discover the struggles, indulgences, and awakenings that shaped this extraordinary artist’s masterpieces.
