Course Description
Ms. Honey offers us a broad survey of sources and perspectives on the modern Civil Rights Movement. It will include close looks at the legacies of such movement leaders as Bayard Rustin, but also examine the unique role of swimming pools, the 1963 Birmingham Children’s Crusade, and the Black Panthers’ Community Programs. The movement was a complex mix of luminaries, ordinary people, stunning national events, and day-to-day grassroots struggles. This lecture will help us see the full range of the movement’s many elements. (IN PERSON)
