Description

The United States leads the world in incarceration. How did this happen? Mr. Roseman offers an examination of the legal precedents governing sentencing, law enforcement priorities, the role of race, and bail systems, all of which make contributions. Add criminal law statutes and procedures, the conditions facing those incarcerated, and the impact on families who have a member inside to round out the picture. He’ll also explore the coping mechanisms for staying alive while imprisoned, the shocking racial rules that prevail among prisoners, and the challenges facing those who re-enter society after serving time. OLLI and Mr. Roseman offer you a frank look at how we became the incarceration leader. It’s a sobering sight.

This lecture will take place at Lake Park, 1850 Alice Street, Oakland, CA 94612.
