Course Description

Professor Day will focus us on the life of one of America’s most consequential (but often underestimated) presidents. Eisenhower emerged in the 1940s as a key architect for US victory in Europe. As president, his calm, removed, self-effacing governing style masked a hard-driving, hands-on executive whose skepticism of the military guided his foreign policy. OLLI and Professor Day encourage you to think of the Eisenhower years as a more fraught time than may be remembered, and to reassess Eisenhower’s leadership in light of the many perilous challenges he faced — and yet left Americans largely feeling safe and secure at home.
