Music lovers recognize instantly the opening of his piano Concerto Number 1, and such famous works as The Nutcracker, Swan Lake, Sleeping Beauty, the Romeo and Juliet Fantasy Overture, and the 1812 Overture are equally familiar. Who among us doesn’t have a favorite passage from the work of this creative genius? Tchaikovsky was also a fascinating man with intriguing relationships. Mr. Bailey will share some of the gossip surrounding Tchaikovsky’s devastating marriage, his unusual ties with a career-building patroness, and the controversy surrounding his death.
